The Finish

This information is for anyone interested in coming to the finish. It will be difficult to know what time to be there, but someone on the boat will be updating twitter often (www.twitter.com/channelswimjen) with our estimated time of arrival. I would love to have people there because it will hopefully be an exciting time, but I must warn that it can be a bit anticlimactic from the beach and hard to get to in the first place. The beach we most likely will finish at (finish beach can change if conditions are less than stellar) is rocky, no sand. So I will not have a movie quality running finish, I will be crawling on the rocks. After being horizontal for possibly 10+ hours, I hear it is very hard to stand, and the finish can be difficult. I must completely clear the water with my whole body until the swim is over. I cannot be touched or assisted in ANY WAY until this is over, so if you come to the finish, save the hugs until I’m done :) The other reason the finish is a bit anticlimactic is because after I finish and maybe sit there for a few minutes, I will be getting back on the boat and going back to the dock. That being said, I would still love to see people at the end of the swim, so if you can bear with it, see you there! We will also probably grab some brunch/lunch after to make it worth everyone’s while.

The most likely beach: Long Point (old Marineland) in Palos Verdes: Google Maps Link
Most likely time: 10am (but really give or take 2 hours)

If you are serious about coming, I would suggest having tweets sent to your phone (keep phone off at night because we will update through the night). That way you will know when to leave work or wherever you are and will be able to have the right beach confirmed. Afterwards, if you have time and I have energy for brunch, head over to the boat dock and we will go from there.

Hope to see you there!

  1. Good Luck Jen!! I know you’re going to do awesome! I’ll be thinking about you tonight/tomorrow, cheering you on :) I’d totally come to see your finish if I didn’t live hundreds of miles away. I hope we get a chance to train together for next summer’s crazy swims!

    Rock it!
